To my kids, Dane, Dawn and Dianne for their unconditional love.....
To God, for the talents He gifted me....

Within the depth of your heart you bleed and you are the only one who understands what a profound loneliness is. In the darkest side of your life, he is a candle glowing in the dark. In the essence of your whole being, your bodies are just one, just one soul……
Chapter I
Phantoms of Memories
When the country was under siege of the 1986 People Power Revolution; when mammoth of people: young and old, fat and thin, nuns and priests armored with rosary, when non-government organizations and civic leaders braved EDSA to demonstrate the ouster of Pres. Marcos, a beautiful angelic baby girl was born to a woman, Margot, in a quiet town of San Jose, Antique (pronounced An-ti-ke) at 2:30 dawn time- when the night time was meeting the daytime. When the baby cried loudly, the chirping of the crickets and the flocks of birds were cacophonous too. It seemed like the crickets and the birds were welcoming the baby for they never stopped chanting in their language until the baby ceased crying. A cry of life? A cry of joy? Or maybe a cry of defiance she existed on the face of the earth? In her little sense of world, she might have foreseen that her life would be consisting of twist and turns.
The strands of the baby’s hairs were between red and golden like the corn hairs. Her red golden hairs were curly. She had a copper skin. A bewitching dark eyes that spoke of her soul. Her face was heart-shaped and had pointed nose like Todd. Her curly hair and dark provocative eyes like her mom. She looked exactly like Todd Stevens, her father. A US Serviceman assigned in the US Bases in Olongapo City with a rank of Lieutenant. Her body small and fragile weighing only 5 lbs. So tiny babe, so beautiful and full of life.
For few months, , Margot had to keep her pregnancy from the prying eyes of malicious people. She had attempted to have the baby aborted due to dishonor but her conscience prevented her to do such devilish act which was a sin against God. Her pusillanimous soul told her to keep the baby no matter what it takes. Margot was bothered how to raise a baby alone without her baby knowing her biological father. There were plenty of imaginations and hallucinations being entertained by her mind to the point that she vomited and felt dizzy. In her early pregnancy, she had to wear a binder to conceal her bloated tummy. This was a bit of discomfort to her. She suffered from shortness of breathing wearing a binder. She had to face the reality that she could not conceal her pregnancy anymore. The baby was growing big in her womb and began to bounce and kick as though she doesn’t like what her mom was doing. In her six months of pregnancy, she resigned and went home to conceal her disgrace.
To be continued.......
