QUO VADIS

I am not impeccable……I have maybe numbers of waterloos that I am fighting out to overcome. I have thousands of disturbing imaginations in my thoughts. They are playing in the whirlwind of my mind.  Nobody can reach them. They are just there I am making fancy of myself. Sometimes these thoughts and lucid imaginations make me laugh, make me cry, make me frustrated, upset and depressed. Who understands anyway? Who cares?  Yet I am still within the limits of my sanity. Whoever touches my tiny soul- I will have a life time rapture.

Between wake and sleep cycle, I can say that I have 3-4 hours of sleep. I have sleeping disorder and my insomnia is killing me to death.  Can’t really get enough sleep. I often seize the night –carpe noctem! -  when I ought to be sleeping and dream of things where my imagination leads me—either to the world of nowhere, the world of nightmare or to the fantasy of naughtiness…hahahaha  I am a woman of mischief but those are all in the mindset.

When I wake-up between dusk and dawn, I feel giddy. I want to sleep more and curl my body and continue dreaming again but the alarm clock of my cell phone keeps on snoozing as though telling me; “you lazy bum, pick up your ass and get a bath.”  My timid body obeys what my mind dictates. Guess what? It took me 30 minutes to compose myself inside the bathroom. Once the cold stream of water dripping all over me, I come back to reality that I must report to work.

GETTING TO KNOW BETTER CESAR CORPIN

I love to write about people and the magnitude of their personality but I am not a psychologist who studies human mind and character. Mine is base on a mere personal acquaintances and friendship so to speak. It reminds me of the saying of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: "Lives of great men all remind us, we can make our lives sublime, and, departing, leave behind us, footprints on the sands of time."

Thorn Heart

"Thorn Heart" is the first book that I am writing. This a story of love, passion and courage of woman coping up with the trials of life. Her ambition was to alleviate her family from quagmire of poverty. For her, life has no boundaries but a great horizon of greater opportunities. Margot was ambitious and strong-willed woman until the day, she fell in love with Todd Stevens which changed her world. Where would her ambition lead her?

To my kids, Dane, Dawn and Dianne for their unconditional love.....

To God, for the talents He gifted me....

To my friends, who are there through thick and thin....

How could you ever love a man you know you can never have? There is a pain in your heart being stabbed by a Damocles sword! Within the depth of your heart you bleed and you are the only one who understands what a profound loneliness is. In the darkest side of your life, he is a candle glowing in the dark. In the essence of your whole being, your bodies are just one, just one soul……

Chapter I
Phantoms of Memories

When the country was under siege of the 1986 People Power Revolution; when mammoth of people: young and old, fat and thin, nuns and priests armored with rosary, when non-government organizations and civic leaders braved EDSA to demonstrate the ouster of Pres. Marcos, a beautiful angelic baby girl was born to a woman, Margot, in a quiet town of San Jose, Antique (pronounced An-ti-ke) at 2:30 dawn time- when the  night time was meeting the  daytime. When the baby cried loudly, the chirping of the crickets and the flocks of birds were cacophonous too.  It seemed like the crickets and the birds were welcoming the baby for they never stopped chanting in their language until the baby ceased crying. A cry of life? A cry of joy?  Or maybe a cry of defiance she existed on the face of the earth? In her little sense of world, she might have foreseen that her life would be consisting of twist and turns.

HARRY POTTER & THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART I MOVIE TREAT

Harry Potter &  the Deathly  Hallows is the last book written by J.K Rowling. The making of the movie was split into two (2) parts. Part I was released by Warner Brothers and showed in different theaters worldwide simultaneously.  It earned an astronomical amount of $61.2 on it’s first day of showing.

Staffs and some agents were swarming like colony of ants at Cinema 3 in Gaisano, Ayala. We were waiting restlessly, my legs aching (due to floor walking) outside Cinema 3. We were engrossed eating our snacks while piling up. Very eager to watch the movie. I saw bigwig of Qualfon, like Alfie Torres, Pacito Revil, Natalie Mamites, Noelle Parnada, Elvie Po, Mary Diongon, etc.  It was past 3:00 pm when we were allowed to enter Cinema 3. The movie was supposed to be 3D (I didn't feel it that way). 3D is a three dimensional film or S3D(stereoscopic 3D) film motion picture that enhances the illusion of depth perception. The archetypical 3-D glasses were not provided to view the movie, nonetheless, I was enjoying with gusto. I realized it was not 3D actually but Cinema 3 D.Meaning to say , we had to sit not  at the lounge area. D means downstairs. That was stupidity in me.  I sat between Mike Gatchalian and Dianh Aguinaldo. As we waited for all sorts  of puffery advertisements and movie trailers to end, pigments of imaginations were circulating in my mind. Where will the adventure of Harry Potter bring me? How will my mind traverse to magical world of sorcery and witchery?  How will the story ends (when I read a book I started reading at the end. Truly Pinoy)? How in the world J.K Rowling has this kind of imaginative and inventive mind? I do believe others were wandering their minds too even bring them to other dimension.

Crazy little thing called LOVE

After sometimes I've finally made up my mind
She is the girl and I really want to make her mine
I'm searching everywhere in find her again
To tell her I love her
And I'm sorry 'bout the things I've done
Have you ever seen a love story movie that vicariously your emotions got carried and you begin to cry? Or reading a love story that you fantasize that you were the seductive, sophisticated and beautiful lass in the story falling in love with a very handsome masculine man on the planet of the earth? The story might be in medieval with old prolific architecture like in  Pride and Prejudice . Or in a modern settings with skyscraper buildings .Whatever was the setting of the story and you were fascinated  those were natural stimulating reactions. The mind titillates our human feelings and we get mesmerized.

Love is the emotion of strong affection and personal attachment. When  a woman meets  a man and gets attracted or vice versa  the ending will be  falling  in love  intensely. My favorite definition of LOVE which I can still memorize the line is that: "LOVE spoken or unspoken is the most compelling of all human emotion."

The Long Road Home

As I arrive home from college for the first time, I realize many things have changed—in my family and in myself.
I find myself packing again.  Well, let's be completely honest, this isn't really packing—it's shoving three weeks' worth of dirty clothes into a suitcase and having my roommate sit on it so I can get it to close.

This time is different; this isn't the same nostalgic trip down memory lane as when I packed before college.  This is the "night before my first trip home frantic pack."  So you get the idea—my plane leaves in two hours, and no, college didn't teach me to procrastinate.  I was experienced in that art long before I stepped onto my college campus.

So now that I'm packed, I have a minute to examine my emotions about my first trip home.  I'm excited.  My best friend, Matt, picks me up, groggy, for our 4:00 a.m. drive.  My expectations are that I am going home to what I left: my parents, home-cooked meals, friends with whom I shared distinctive bonds and my long-distance boyfriend, whom I have been dying to see.  I am happy at college, but a trip home, to my family and friends, sounds like just the thing I need to prepare me for the pre-finals crunch.

ADONG, THE WALKING SHIFT MANAGER

The squirrel said to the mountain; "If I cannot carry forest on my back, neither can you crack a nut."

Describing the totality of a person is something difficult to put into words. Adjectives can be pompous or grandiloquence or useless, if you don’t implant to the readers the meaning of the words that you are describing about the person.  Simply it could be hollow and empty. It is like a plot in a novel story that you'll find  stupendous and exciting. Mine is simple description of  this person.

When you see a guy entered and exited the premises of Qualfon with great impetus, then you feel that he has strong personality. Not because he is tall, dark and handsome   (Jeez, girls love this  kind description of a man as though he is the Prince Charming) but because he has a silver tongue. He is witty and glib talker and he never runs out of ideas as long as you have the ears to listen.  This reminds me of "Desiderata". Few may not like him-accusing him as "overacting". By the full force of  his position, he is not over reacting  I say but just doing his functions to the best of his capacity. He is  sort of charismatic leader. If he runs for politics, he can be a good politician. I love to address him as “Wonderful Adong”. Gee, I cannot fathom where I get  this "title". I believe it was through the net messenger. Wonderful means extraordinary good.  He is   the Shift Manager that I can see proactive on the floor. I describe him as the "The Walking Shift Manager".

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS FOR 2010

Effective November 7 EST daylight saving time ends so the afternoon shift with schedule of  4pm will be reporting 5pm. With the rest, it will be one hour later against their programmed shift. For us Filipinos working in American environment call center, this change of schedule is baffling since we are use to Philippine Time. Our body clock will adopt this kind of schedule until Daylight Saving Time will resume on March 13, 2010. Is Daylight Saving time really beneficial to us Filipinos? It is like we are going around in circus. Moving the clock one hour later, the clock still rotates so our lives go on. The brainchild of Daylight Saving Time was  Ben Franklin.

THUMBS UP FOR RAMIL!

Everyday is a noisy pandemonium of agents taking calls.  Or like clanking of thunderous sound in my ears. Or like  El Shaddai when you see agents raising their hands for assistance. My legs were tremendously tired floor walking yesterday that I would like to slump and dropped dead.  Sometimes I could hear a whisper in my ears telling me "kaya mo yan" so I have to keep going. Sometimes, I would tell myself; "Lazy Bum." Though it was  entirely excruciating day, I was relieved when someone told me that my agent Ramil Rabillas

LOVE QUOTES

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are.

Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.

ONE KIND OF A GREAT BUDDY!

Comic picture of Dennis
In an ordinate anatomy of a man, he has doesn’t look muscular, with great abs, broad shoulder, big thighs but in quintessence of an ordinate anatomy of man, he surpass all these physical attributes. He is one kind of a great buddy!  This is the most important trait of a man rather than having those attributions when a man is one hell of a loose cranium in his head.

I told Dhenz ( I fondly called him by this nick) I wanted to write an article about him. He refused. I did not object! I did not argue! He said he has not achieved any accomplishment yet. My eyebrows met.  He was too humble. Too magnanimous! But then again I don’t like to make any circular arguments. He was right in his own way. So I make this to a point to write about him basing on my acquaintances with him.

SIMPLE IDEAS TO HELP YOU MEET A MAN

I could hear  girls talk almost everyday, be it in the pantry, elevator or in every corners of our workplace. I could hear them giggle and say:  OMG!, he is handsome, cute, attractive, sexy, gorgeous, etc. Even from gays I could hear them scream . This is a natural phenomenon:  law of attraction. By law of attraction, I’m not simply referring to  think many possibilities that one can make most of  his life. . What I mean here, is the attraction of women to their opposite sex or vice versa. Women gets edgy when they are attracted to man. When a woman is extremely attracted to a man, does he find a way to meet that man or just meeting the man in their wildest fantasy?

Here are simple  ideas that you can meet  a man.

Admire His Sense of Style
When you spot a looker, tell him "That shirt/jacket/sweater looks awesome on you." He probably spends some time picking his outfits on the weekends. Getting style props will give him a confidence boost and make him want to keep talking to you.

20 Simple Ways to Get Happy

State of Mind

Happiness is ephemeral, subject to the vagaries of everything from the weather to the size of your bank account.

We're not suggesting that you can reach a permanent state called "happiness" and remain there. But there are many ways to swerve off the path of anxiety, anger, frustration, and sadness into a state of happiness once or even several times throughout the day. Here are 20 ideas to get you started. Choose the ones that work for you. If tuning out the news or making lists will serve only to stress you further, try another approach.

1. Practice mindfulness. Be in the moment. Instead of worrying about your checkup tomorrow while you have dinner with your family, focus on the here and now -- the food, the company, the conversation.

FOR HE'S A JOLLY GOOD FELLOW!

Pa cute
Who doesn't know Art Jos? Oh common guys, he is a famous persona in Qualfon. When you come across a peppy chubby - chubby guy (I hate to describe him as "fat".  Chubby is cute in all essence of terminologies!) with great butt and bingo, a frustrated diva. Hahaha I am drawing a line all that I figure out about Art. Truly, he has an amazing voice. He can sing like a real macho guy and a wannabe perfect female diva.  He only needs to show off this talent.

I was persistent last week that I'll feature him in my blog. I had a chance to interview him. It was a short lived interview, not ambushed. Life in the call center is fast pace race and few pit stops. When there is a pit stop, it is a one-hour break then back to usual mode.

BITS AND PIECES

Qualfon Idol
Who will be the next Qualfon Idol? This remains to be seen until the competition is up and running  this coming  December 2010. This concept is base on the popular American Idol in which young aspirant singers audition for a chance to be chosen as the new singing idol. Of course, a prize is at stake.  A one-year recording contract  and  to represent Qualfon in any singing competition. Lolz, one year recording contract is a sort of shtick or puns.   This is the event to watch soon. Unfortunately, I am not aware of the criteria and all those exciting hullabaloo.  I am not a notorious paparazzi who get a first hand scope of information. I am eavesdropping only.   In my team, I have told Ram to join this prestigious competition. Quafon Idol is a great venue for agents to show their singing  powerhouse like, Fritz.

Charice in concert with DF & friends

I discovered this little girl way back 2006. She was one of the contestants in Little Big Star singing competition. She was almost there but got 3rd place though she gave it all. Sam Concepcion was the grand winner. She lost in text votes. I am talking about Charice Pempengco. She almost gave up her dreams when she lost in Little Big Star until a stranger aka False Voice posted her jaw dropping performance in Korea in Youtube.com. The rest  was history.  Now, Charice is the first Asian singer to top the Billboard with her song “Pyramid” and the only Filipino to capture the international scene and Hollywood. David Foster described her as the wallop of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. She is under the wing of David Foster and powerful media mogul, Oprah Winfrey.

The Legacy of the Underground Man

All I could hear were the
resounding joys and laughter
and then they vanished like

smoke slipping skyward

Then I tried to memorize lines
to describe him but my thoughts
dwindle with the ebb
of the tide in the ocean
I love u Jollibee :)
I am not talking about Fyodor Dostoevsky, the author of the book The Underground Man, a very complex story that deals of the emotional thought of a person. What I mean of the “Underground Man” was our trainer, Brent Garlock way back in 2006 when Qualfon was being conceived in Cebu and one of  the pillars in Qualfon.  I chose this title for my blog because he is an avid reader of The Underground Man. I only know him by name and numbers but not in totality. He has a private life of his own that we need to respect.

My First Team

My first team-ST New Hires

Look at them, full of hope
I was still in the Quality Department when my QA Sup Dennis informed me that I’ll be endorsed to Operations as Ops Supervisor effective 23 August 2010 and be handling ST new hires. With all the struggles, extending hours (which was beyond the prescribed working hours) to meet the quota and queued paper works, It was a blitzkrieg surprise for me. I was not expecting it! I wanted to slap my face and say: “Hey, am I dreaming?” That was too fast of a promotion but promotion means, increase in responsibilities and interacting directly to the agents.

THE RHETORIC OF DOWNPLAYING

Remember I am sending you out like sheep among the wolves; so be as cunning as serpents and yet as harmless as doves.”
                                     -Matthew 10:16

There are people who are happy with their fault finding expedition. When I was updating my blog yesterday, there was a comment that caught my attention stating that I should hide my blog, an embarrassment, etc.  That was purely disparaging me as a person and my blog.  I called that a “The Rhetoric of Downplaying.”  This is a self-hating propaganda done by individual neurotic writer or a nervous gunner afraid to be shot dead first.  What will the writer do, downplaying the “good” of others because she/he finds happiness in that! It is a sort of innuendos against someone. It is explicit and implied derogatory statements .In politics, this is a smear campaign.  Snarl words have a psychological effect on the person being attacked but I don’t buy this idea. I used to work in a political environment when propaganda, mudslinging, ad hominem attacks, graft and corruption were part of the game. Where there were rhetoric of haves and have-nots and the rhetoric of the conservative and the progressive. Where there was a “Pep Talk or there was “The Pitch.” When there was downplaying and intensifying scheme.

Remnants of Generation 1 - 2006 (under Brent Garlock)

What is a great leader?

We often have a three hundred circus ring in our minds asking what are the good qualities of a great leader. We need leaders to run our country, to run the affairs and operations of the companies, even in our homes, we look up to our parents as a leaders. There are leaders who are tyrants, authoritative, slave-driver or out of this world. This kind of leader lives in the world of delusion to stay in power - to eternity. Good examples Hitler, Saddam Hussein & Marcos.

What do you really look for a leader? For me, the power of grasping every situation. Taking in control of the situation and formulating changes that will be beneficial to the organization as a whole. Yet, that leader should have a good heart and truly have a dynamic heart.

I stumble upon this article which can give us a concept or perspective of a great leader. Check this out.

Frtiz -The Singing Balladdeer Powerhouse

I had a talk with Fritz early morning at 7th floor. I informed him that I'll be featuring him in my blog. Pouring my thoughts in blogging has been my inkling already.

Like Charice, Fritz is a singing powerhouse in Qualfon. Nobody has yet defeated this throne. I first heard Fritz sing in Qualfon Idol during 2008 Christmas party.  OMG, I got goosebumps. He sent chills down my spine over and over again. He had an excellent vocals, smashed high notes and who had matched his pipe? None, so he was declared the grand winner.  That was a fantastic performance ever.

LIVE FOR TODAY

Have you ever wished, when a day went wrong
a wish that's quite in vain
that it were only possible
to live that day again

You'd start out in the morning
with the prayers you should have said
and through the days your actions
with tolerance be led

The many little instances
that tried your patience, true
if only you could start again
you'd know now what to do

You'd kneel and say your evening prayers
and thank the lord above
for all the pleasant hours past
your heart at peace with love

But since this is a wish in vain
and never can be true
there's only one alternative
just one thing you can do

To live today in such a way
that when tomorrow comes
the memories of yesterday
will all be cherished ones.

CLASH OF THE QUALFON TITANS

The clash of the Titans has begun. This is the suitable title for this article. What I mean to say is that, the sport fest of Qualfon culminates on October 2, 2010 held at Cebu Sports Club. This the this sport fest of Qualfon.  Sports is a set of activity governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. In this arena, you cannot see the athletes wearing barbarian costumes like in the movie, Clash of Titans in combatant with gods and goddesses.

I was not around to witness the culminating activity but I have already heard a number of brohaha and bravado from each participants. Who will be the winning team remains to be seen. The sport fest has not yet ended. October 9 will be the judgment day.  What team garnered lots of wins? This is a million dollar question befuddling in my mind. Whoever will be declared winner.....CONGRATS. The loser-don't feel small. Without your participation, this event would not have been a tremendous success. What matter most is that, the continuance of building a sturdy and solid foundation for Qualfon-camaraderie, harmonious relationship, peace and order, open communication, etc.

Words of Wisdom

Focus On Yourself

Some of us waste our time waiting for people to live up to our expectations.
We are so concerned about what others are doing that we don’t do anything ourselves.

Its not so important what others are upto; compared to what you are doing.

Focus on what you do, your work; Not on others.

Measure of Success

Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life,
as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed.

Give And Take

You have two hands. Take with one and with other you give.
That's the way life works out and thats the way to live.

What you get and what you give must balance up someday.

It's give a little, take a little all along the way.

HOW TO RESPOND TO ANGRY CUSTOMER

When customer gets irate, upset and frustrated for the not resolving the issue and it has been emanating for couple of days, the customer starts to shout and use foul words. Again, it has been reiterated that it is not against the representative but address to the company per se.  Though this has been the fundamental explanation to representative, the lack of skills to handle irate customers may lead to releasing of call resulting to loss of customer. Or lowering down the score.

Here are ten powerful steps to diffuse angry customers, address the issues and sustain customer loyalty.

1. Assume that the Customer has a Right to be Angry

Nobody makes mistakes on purpose, but they do happen. If you are working in a call center, behind a counter or in any capacity that directly interfaces with customers then you are going to encounter an irate customer at some time. The most common response is to evaluate the merit of the complaint while your are listening to it. Try to curb that common response and replace it with the assumption that the customer has a right to be angry, even before you know the details.

Beautiful Faces in Qualfon

Rhodora! if the sages ask thee why
This charm is wasted on the earth and sky,
Tell them, dear, that, if eyes were made for seeing,
Then beauty is its own excuse for Being;
Why thou wert there, O rival of the rose!
I never thought to ask; I never knew;
But in my simple ignorance suppose
The self-same power that brought me there, brought you.
Excerpt from the poem, Rhodora
by Ralph Waldo Emerson

You will disagree with me, perhaps but all I can say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Dyan Gallardo
I find her charming and down to earth. The inner beauty in her cannot be defined by words.

 Ruth Manning
She has a face that can launch a thousand ships. A classical beauty.

Mary Catane: MY IRREPLACABLE FRIEND

I was like her Mom and she was like my daughter. That was a relationship between me and Mary since we have known each other in 2006.

Well, Mary is  an explorer –like Dora. Her brain is like the blade of samurai. At times, radical minded to the point of being misconstrued. Anyway, I am her Mom till now so I might be the only person who can understand her on this planet, where all are lies, deceptions, deceit and complexities face us. This world is getting crook as it gets older.  I am not squibbling generalities. This is the crux of life when we don’t need a thousand friends, even just one friend who stays thick and thin with you.

I remembered she would cry on my shoulder so I would give her my other shoulder. Sometimes, I was the one who was freaking out, and she was there opening her mind to me. Or sometimes, listened to my nonsense stories. . Sometimes, I was like a tiny soul, lost and weary. It was the time for her to comfort me.

Nowadays our lives are too busy. We are running after time, after deadlines, facing so many  impediments, working hard for the money, squandering our health to reach the summit of success, etc….whatever. No matter what it takes, Mary is my irreplaceable friend.

We have communicated recently in FB (darn FB!!! makes me gaga). I can sense she kinda  upset, frustrated. I commented “UNLEASH that devil in you and you’ll be fine.” Lol, I felt like  I was her devils advocate. Yes she needs that.  I love this kid, like my daughter. I am so happy for all her achievements, big or small!.

I am always like a Mom for  my irreplaceable friend.

JAN O: AN EYE CATCHER

If I were a boy
Even just for a day
I’d roll outta bed in the morning
And throw on what I wanted then go
Drink beer with the guys
And chase after girls
I’d kick it with who I wanted
And I’d never get confronted for it.
Cause they’d stick up for me.

That was a famous song from Beyonce Knowles. Yeah, If I were a boy, then I would be madly fall in love with this woman.  She has the height, bootilicious, sexy and oh, an eye-catcher but there is still that simplicity in her. If my head spin when I saw her in Quafon, how much more of the myriad of boys.

We are fond of calling her Jan. She is one of the pioneers in Qualfon. She was formerly an Operations Supervisor in Sales Support. Like the others, she climbed to the corporate ladder. She is now my Shift Manager in Straight Talk. With the right formula and dedication, who knows she will be a Senior Shift Manager. Go, go, gurl!
